In brief
Russia’s Federal Security Service said it uncovered and stopped a Ukrainian‑backed scheme to smuggle explosive devices into first‑person view goggles disguised as humanitarian aid. The agency seized similar devices from postal services, opened a criminal case, and revealed how the improvised devices would detonate when the goggles were activated.
In a strike on Monday, Russia’s Federal Security Service announced it had foiled a series of attacks by Ukrainian special services that concealed explosive devices in first‑person view goggles disguised as humanitarian aid for Russian troops, according to Xinhua.
A Russian serviceman in the Volgograd region reported receiving two pairs of goggles from a volunteer, and after inspection an improvised explosive device hidden in place of the cooling fan, set to detonate when the goggles were switched on, was discovered.
The FSB said security agencies in several regions seized similar devices from postal services.
Under the criminal case, the Russian agency is investigating how the improvised devices were embedded in the goggles and the extent of the plot across the country.
