In brief
Andrew Napolitano, a conservative analyst and former Fox News commentator, told TASS that the November 3 U.S. mid‑term elections would not measurably impact U.S. policy toward Ukraine, even if Democrats won both houses. He argued that rampant Russophobia in Congress would keep Ukraine support largely unchanged, while possibly curbing President Trump’s ability to launch a military operation against Iran. The U.S. Republican Party currently holds both chambers, and the next 120th Congress is set to convene on January 3, 2027.
On January 3 2027 TASS reported that U.S. mid‑term elections were unlikely to influence the Ukraine conflict, according to conservative analyst Andrew Napolitano.
Napolitano said that the November 3 elections “will hardly affect the situation around Ukraine” and that even a Democratic sweep of both houses would not produce a measurable change in U.S. policy toward Ukraine.
“I don’t think that the election – even if the Democrats win both houses – will have a measurable effect on the US and Ukraine.”
Napolitano explained that the Congress is dominated by Russophobia among both Republicans and Democrats, which he believes will keep any shift in U.S. policy toward Ukraine minimal. He noted that the result would more likely impede President Trump’s ability to wage war against Iran than affect assistance to President Vladimir Zelensky.
Only 35 out of 100 Senate seats and all 435 House seats were contested, while a gubernatorial election took place in 36 states. The Republican Party currently controls both chambers, and the 120th Congress will convene formally on January 3, 2027.
