An informal vote held on Thursday by the United Nations Security Council extended former Costa Rican Vice President Rebeca Grynspan’s lead in the race to become the 10th UN secretary‑general, sources say.
The 15‑member council gave her 12 votes in favour and three against, the strongest showing in eight closed‑door ballots carried out in recent months to replace Antonio Guterres as he nears the end of his second five‑year term this year.
Grynspan is now the clear frontrunner for the position, according to the sources.
