Vice‑President JD Vance spoke about the Antichrist and the end‑times on a Christian podcast, saying he would not be shocked if the Antichrist were walking among us. The remarks were made while he answered a question from podcaster Bryce Crawford, who asked whether Vance believed the world was entering a final apocalyptic phase.
Friend and conservative writer Rod Dreher is quick to reassure that Vance’s comments are not shocking. Speaking to the BBC Today programme, Dreher said such views are a very common belief within Christian circles and that voters “already believe this stuff.”
Vance clarified that his musings do not dominate his mind. He stressed that his priority is to be good to his wife and children, and to serve as a capable leader for the United States, saying he is focused on “doing as much of God’s work as possible right now.”
The term “end‑times” refers to Christian eschatology, the study of what will happen at the world’s end. The Antichrist is portrayed as the ultimate enemy of God who appears in the final phase of history and attempts to seize control.
Vance’s religious journey has deepened his engagement with Catholic teachings. He converted in 2019, in his mid‑30s, and has spoken of the church resonating with his family values and conservative politics. He has occasionally clashed with the Vatican over immigration policy under the previous administration.
Vance is set to deliver his first White House press briefing on Thursday following the departure of Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt. The briefing will cover a range of domestic issues as the administration prepares for the next set of policy initiatives.
