Three Men Convicted for Blackmailing Michael Schumacher's Family
A German court finds three individuals guilty of extorting Michael Schumacher's family over sensitive information.
Three men were convicted in a German court for their roles in an extortion scheme targeting the family of Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher. The main perpetrator, Yilmaz T., received a three-year prison sentence after threatening to release sensitive materials, including personal photos and medical records, on the dark web unless his family paid €15 million. His son received a six-month suspended sentence for his part in the crime, while a former security guard was handed a two-year suspended term despite denying involvement. Schumacher, who has maintained a low profile since sustaining severe brain injuries in a 2013 skiing accident, has had his family keep his health details confidential. The judge emphasized the security guard's responsibility for the blackmail attempt, leading to the family's lawyer expressing discontent with the leniency of sentences issued.
