A train driver has been killed and at least 14 people injured after a commuter train derailed and crashed near Barcelona, according to local media reports. The incident occurred when the Rodalies train collided with a retaining wall that had fallen onto the track between Gelida and Sant Sadurní on Tuesday evening. The severity of the passengers' injuries is currently being assessed by emergency services, with eleven ambulances responding to the scene and 35 fire crews deployed to assist. One passenger trapped inside the wreckage was rescued, while others have been evacuated to nearby hospitals.

The derailment coincided with heavy storms sweeping through northeastern Spain, causing high alert in several coastal areas and resulting in weather-related disturbances such as snowstorms in the Spanish Pyrenees. This tragic accident follows another significant rail disaster just days earlier in which at least 42 individuals died when two high-speed trains collided in Andalusia, marking one of Spain's deadliest rail incidents in over a decade.
