British Paraglider Kills in Catalonia Mountain Accident
A 63‑year‑old British tourist tragically lost his life during a paragliding excursion in the northern Spanish region of Catalonia. Emergency responders arrived at the Palau de Noguera site around 13:30 local time on Wednesday, where the pilot had been seriously injured.
Rescue workers delivered first aid until medical teams took over, but the man succumbed to his injuries. The UK Foreign Office has confirmed it is supporting the grieving family, which will be contacted through consular channels.
Authorities in Catalonia have not yet clarified the precise cause of the crash. Early reports suggest the pilot may have tangled in nearby power lines before impact, however official investigations are pending.
The incident took place near Tremp, an area renowned for paragliding and hang‑gliding, situated on the edge of the Pyrenees. Three fire brigades and two medical teams were dispatched to respond, while the Mossos d’Esquadra coordinated five citizen security and investigation units in the area.
This fatality serves as a stark reminder of the inherent dangers associated with high‑altitude sports in rugged terrain, and highlights the importance of stringent safety protocols for pilots and rescue teams alike.
