JUPITER ISLAND, Fla. (AP) — Tiger Woods has found himself in legal trouble again, this time after being arrested on DUI charges stemming from a car accident near his home on Friday. Authorities confirmed that Woods showed signs of impairment following a collision where he struck another vehicle before rolling his Land Rover.
The incident is reported as at least the fourth auto-related incident involving Woods and the second occasion on which he has been charged with driving under the influence. Remarkably, while a Breathalyzer test returned negative, Woods refused subsequent urine testing.
Woods was charged with driving under the influence with property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test, both misdemeanors. Fortunately, neither he nor the driver of the other vehicle sustained injuries in the accident.
The First DUI Charge
The 2021 accident marks a troubling continuation of Woods' history with driving incidents. In 2017, police found Woods asleep at the wheel of his car while it was running, leading to charges of DUI, which he later pled guilty to by accepting a plea deal that included probation and community service.
California Crash Nearly Costs Him His Leg
Earlier, in a severe crash in February 2021, Woods suffered extensive injuries, including shattered bones in his right leg, after his vehicle veered off a coastal road at high speed. Doctors considered the possibility of amputation at one point, but after months of recovery, he managed to make a return to the sport.
Fire Hydrant Collision
Woods’ history of driving incidents stretches back to 2009 when he crashed into a fire hydrant, which became public amidst allegations regarding his personal life. The incident not only drew media attention but also led to an examination of his personal choices.
While Woods continues to deal with the repercussions of his actions, fans and supporters hold out hope for his recovery and return to golf.
