Police have arrested a teenager after a shooting on Saturday that left 12 people wounded near Tallahassee’s Bragg Memorial Stadium, just after Florida A&M University played its home football game.

The incident took place at about 8 p.m. local time (01:00 Sunday GMT). Eleven people were shot; an additional person was hurt while running away from the scene.

According to Tallahassee Police, the suspect, Anthony Rivers III, 15, has been charged with 11 counts of attempted second‑degree murder and possession of a firearm by a delinquent.

Police said the shooting followed an argument between people who knew each other and that further arrests may be made.

None of the victims appeared to have been the intended targets, the police added, and six of the injured were children.

"What should have been a weekend of celebration in our community instead became a night of fear and violence for the victims and their families," Chief Lawrence Revell said. "We remain committed to holding those responsible accountable and to getting answers for every family impacted by this tragedy."

At the time of the statement, six people were in hospital, one in critical condition, and five had been discharged. Revell told a press conference that officers had to carry victims in their arms to emergency responders because the crowd from the football game made access difficult.
