Survivors describe the blast as terrifying, while Ukrainian authorities report that the damage has raised new fears about the city’s safety. President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that Russia would continue to target civilian structures unless Patriot missiles are removed from allied stockpiles. Official media tally shows at least 13 people killed in the capital, with additional casualties in the wider Kyiv region.

On Sunday night, Moscow launched 23 ballistic missiles at the Ukrainian capital. Air Force officials confirmed that none of the rockets were intercepted, citing a shortage of interceptor missiles, which left a large hole in a residential building and sparked panic among residents.

A survivor told the BBC that the blast was terrifying, and the damage to the apartment block was severe, creating a gaping crater at the site.

President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that Moscow would continue to hit residential buildings if Patriot missiles remain in allied stockpiles, underscoring the urgency of bolstering Ukraine’s air defence.

Officials reported at least 13 deaths in Kyiv from the second large-scale attack within a week, with six more fatalities occurring in the wider Kyiv region.
