In a somber announcement, the Irmãs Teresianas Brasil confirmed the passing of Sister Inah Canabarro Lucas, who was regarded as the oldest living person globally. Known for her love of soccer and for receiving a papal blessing from Pope Francis at her 110th birthday, she died at a retirement home in Porto Alegre, Brazil.

Sister Inah would have celebrated her 117th birthday in a few weeks. Her family reported she passed away due to natural causes related to old age. Despite considerable physical decline, including fading eyesight and hearing, she only underwent one surgical procedure at 106.

Guinness World Records recognized Sister Inah as the oldest person following the death of another supercentenarian in January. Born in an astonishing era of history over a century ago, marked by innovations like the Model T and the early developments in television, her existence offered a unique perspective on change and resilience.

In a heartfelt tribute on social media, her congregation reflected on her dedicated service, expressing gratitude for her life and invoking divine welcome into eternal love.
