NEW YORK (AP) — Newly disclosed government files on Jeffrey Epstein are offering more details about his interactions with the rich and famous after he served time for sex crimes in Florida, and how investigators knew about his abuse of underage girls when they decided not to indict him on federal charges nearly two decades ago.

The documents released Friday consist of Epstein’s communications with former White House advisers, NFL team owners, and billionaires such as Bill Gates and Elon Musk.

President Donald Trump’s Justice Department has announced the release of over 3 million pages of documents along with extensive video and image resources under a law aimed at revealing the extensive material gathered over two decades regarding the wealthy financier.

The files include details about Epstein’s friendship with Britain’s Prince Andrew, and documents related to interactions with Trump adviser Steve Bannon and New York Giants co-owner Steve Tisch.

Draft Indictment Highlights Abuse

The FBI's investigation into Epstein began in July 2006 with expectations of an indictment as early as May 2007. A draft indictment indicated plans to charge Epstein and several aides based on testimonies from multiple underage girls.

Document revelations include instances of Epstein instructing his house staff to procure flowers for a high school student and cleaning after his massages. Ultimately, a plea deal allowed Epstein to avoid federal prosecution for serious charges, resulting in an 18-month sentence for lesser offenses.

High-Profile Contacts in Epstein's Emails

The released records also highlight numerous references to Trump, discussions surrounding political activities, and a variety of tips regarding wrongdoing by Trump. Additionally, Musk's communications reveal planned visits to Epstein's Caribbean island.

The documents suggest Epstein tried to connect Tisch with various women and demonstrate an interchange of political banter between Epstein and Bannon, illustrating his alliances across influential circles.

While prominent names have appeared in these documents, neither Trump nor Clinton, who have both been linked to Epstein, face allegations of wrongdoing from his victims. Epstein died by suicide in jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on similar charges that hounded him throughout his life.
