FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) — A helicopter operated by the Arizona Department of Public Safety tragically crashed while responding to an active shooter situation on Wednesday night. Both the pilot and a trooper, who was also a paramedic, lost their lives in the incident, as confirmed by Sgt. Kameron Lee of the Flagstaff Police Department.
The helicopter was dispatched to assist local law enforcement agencies when the crash occurred. The identities of the deceased have not yet been made public.
Tragically, during the incident, the helicopter crashed, killing both the pilot and the trooper/paramedic on board, Lee stated.
Authorities have announced that the investigation into the crash will be carried out alongside the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board. Initial inquiries have already been sent to these agencies.
Aside from the helicopter crash, it was reported that the suspect in the active shooter scenario sustained non-fatal injuries and has been apprehended. Fortunately, no other injuries were reported in connection with the shooting.
