A Palestinian man was shot dead by an Israeli during a settler attack on a village in the occupied West Bank on Wednesday evening. A relative said Alaa Khalid Subeih, 28, was killed as he attempted to defend a greenhouse from the settlers in Tayasir, located in the northern West Bank. A senior UN official also stated that he was killed by a settler. In contrast, the Israeli military reported that Subeih was shot by an off-duty soldier, accusing him of throwing stones.

Recent violence has been concentrated in Tayasir, which has seen increased settler activity, deemed illegal under international law. Officials have expressed grave concerns over what they describe as 'government-sponsored Jewish terrorism' that is escalating in the region.

The Israeli government has reportedly approved numerous new settlements, raising tensions in an area that is supposed to be under the security control of the Palestinian Authority. This incident comes shortly after a CNN crew was detained by Israeli soldiers while covering violence in the area.

Family members of Subeih remember him as a calm and respectful young man, and they have criticized Israeli settlers for operating under army protection. The IDF has not returned Subeih's body to his family, intensifying their grief. An official statement from the IDF describes Subeih as a 'terrorist,' a claim that has not been substantiated and contrasts starkly with the English-language version of their statement.
