Crowd at Delhi protest

Background

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) began in May after a Chief Justice’s remarks about unemployed youth were taken as a slur. The party framed its movement as a stand against policy neglect.

The Protest

Set to take place in Delhi, the protest was officially denied a permit. Police moved in thousands, sealing roads and tightening patrols as the CJP insisted it would proceed.

Detentions

Following the arrival of CJP founders and other leaders, authorities detained over two hundred participants. Images on social media show demonstrators throwing up painted aggressive gestures.

Reactions

Opposition groups condemn the crackdown as a clampdown on free expression. The CJP has vowed to continue its campaign against what it calls systemic silencing.
