On Sunday a wave of protests led by the Gen‑Z Cockroach Janta Party turned chaotic after Delhi police detained several of its leaders before a planned march for electoral reforms.

Founders Abhijeet Dipke, Saurav Das, and Ashutosh Ranka were taken away on a flight from Mumbai and have not yet been released.

Police blocked routes and barred access to the Jantar Mantar square – a key political landmark – even as the movement insisted it would proceed.

The group, still unregistered as a party, has demanded the resignation of election chief Gyanesh Kumar over alleged manipulation of voter lists in the latest roll‑updates. Opposition leaders claim the updates favour the ruling BJP, a claim denied by the commission.

Thousands of security forces and officers were stationed across Delhi, converging on strategically chosen spots to disperse crowds. Many protesters were transported in police buses, footage shows officers in pink uniforms escorting handcuffed activists onto vehicles.

The movement traces its roots to a viral post by Dipke that played on the Chief Justice’s comment comparing jobless youth to cockroaches. The message evolved into a demand for education and electoral reforms after the government’s resignation of education minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

With state elections looming, the crackdown signals a high point of youth mobilisation and growing friction in India’s political landscape.
