Sydney police have announced the arrest of a 23-year-old man in connection with the kidnapping and murder of 85-year-old grandfather Chris Baghsarian. Authorities stated that the crime was a case of mistaken identity, occurring on February 13 when Baghsarian was taken from his home in North Ryde. His body was discovered nearly two weeks later, near a local golf course.

The arrested individual has been charged with multiple offenses, including murder, kidnapping, and possession of firearms and drugs. Detective Chief Inspector Andrew Marks described the man as a major player in this alleged crime, claiming he facilitated and recruited others to assist in the kidnapping and was actively involved in holding Baghsarian captive.

Two other individuals had already been arrested in connection with this case, and police believe that a total of up to nine people may have been involved in the kidnapping and murder. Investigations indicate that the incident may have links to organized crime, with local media suggesting that the attack may have been directed at a family with criminal connections.

Police initially made several appeals for Baghsarian's safe return, emphasizing his health concerns and need for daily medication. They have also released CCTV footage of individuals suspected of being involved in the incident. The 23-year-old man charged was arrested at a residence in Seven Hills and has been refused bail pending a court appearance.
