Wendt, remembered as a loving family man and treasured friend, was an essential part of Cheers, which aired from 1982 to 1993, featuring him in all 275 episodes. His character was humorously welcomed into the bar with enthusiastic chants of his name. Wendt received six consecutive Emmy nominations for his outstanding supporting role in a comedy series. Married to actress Bernadette Birkett since 1978, Wendt leaves behind three children and is the uncle of actor Jason Sudeikis, known for Ted Lasso.
