A tanker outbound through the Strait of Hormuz reported an explosion at its port‑side waterline late Thursday, according to UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO). The incident occurred at 22:00 GMT on Thursday, some 16 nautical miles east of Khasab, Oman, according to a delayed report received from the vessel’s master.

All crew members were safe and the vessel remained under its own power, continuing its voyage. The advisory did not specify the cause of the explosion or the extent of any damage.

UKMTO said investigations are underway and urged vessels to transit with caution and report any suspicious activity.

Only Xinhua has reported the explosion, and that outlet provided the details of the location, time and immediate aftermath of the incident.
