In brief

Saudi Arabia‑led forces reported that a cruise missile fired by Yemen’s Houthi militia toward the Riyadh region was intercepted and destroyed. Both the coalition spokesperson Maj. Gen. Turki al‑Maliki and the Saudi Press Agency confirmed the success, highlighting the continued conflict in the region. The incident underscores the coalition’s military efforts against the Houthi group that has controlled parts of Yemen since 2014.

Saudi Arabia’s coalition air defences intercepted and destroyed a cruise missile launched by Yemen’s Houthi militia ahead of the Riyadh region on Saturday, the coalition spokesperson announced on the social media platform X, citing an ongoing escalation with the Houthi group.

Maj. Gen. Turki al‑Maliki, the coalition’s spokesman, posted the statement, noting the missile’s launch by the “terrorist Houthi militia” and that it was intercepted over the Riyadh region.

Al‑Maliki emphasized the missile’s targeted area and the effectiveness of the coalition’s air‑defence systems.

Saudi Press Agency (SPA) also reported the same event in a press release. SPA’s spokesperson for the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen confirmed that a cruise missile launched by the Houthi militia toward the Riyadh region was intercepted and destroyed.

Both outlets note that Saudi Arabia has led a coalition supporting Yemen’s internationally recognised government against the Houthi group since 2015, after the group seized the capital Sanaa and other parts of the country the previous year.

These confirmations illustrate the continued military engagement between the coalition and the Houthi militia, with the latest interception marking another episode in the conflict’s escalation across the region.
