In brief

Samsung Electronics announced a 783.1% jump in operating profit to 107.4 trillion won (about US$80.4 billion) and a 126.9% rise in revenue to 195.3 trillion won during its third‑quarter results. The surge was driven by its semiconductor unit, which sold high‑bandwidth memory (HBM4) for AI infrastructure and forecast historic AI‑related capital expenditure next year. United Press International reports similar figures in dollar terms, stating Samsung’s revenue reached $110 billion and operating profit $80 billion.

Samsung Electronics announced record operating profit and revenue for the July‑September quarter, according to a statement released Thursday by the South Korean conglomerate and reported by Xinhua. The company’s operating profit rose 783.1 percent from a year earlier to hit 107.4 trillion won (about US$80.4 billion), while revenue climbed 126.9 percent to 195.3 trillion won.

The gains were overwhelmingly driven by the semiconductor division, which generated an operating profit of 106.5 trillion won and revenue of 147.1 trillion won in the third quarter, the report said. The beat was attributed to a surge in demand for memory chips used in artificial‑intelligence (AI) infrastructure.

Samsung’s quarterly statement noted that the company had sharpened its product mix toward AI applications and scaled up sales of high‑bandwidth memory 4 (HBM4), positioning itself ahead of industry competition for AI leadership. The firm also projects that capital expenditure on AI infrastructure will reach a historic level in 2027 as the AI ecosystem expands, predicting demand will far exceed supply compared to 2026.

United Press International reported similar data in dollar terms, citing Samsung’s consolidated revenue of $110 billion and operating profit of $80 billion for the July‑September period. The UPI article also quoted Samsung’s statement:

The memory business achieved another record‑breaking quarter by managing its product mix, with a focus on AI products, amid capacity constraints. Strong demand momentum for servers led to higher market prices across all applications. Additionally, the business experienced continued robust demand, driven by AI applications. It significantly scaled up sales of HBM4 on the back of industry‑leading product competitiveness while proactively addressing growing demand for server solid‑state drives.

Both outlets confirm that Samsung hit its fourth consecutive quarter of record revenue and operating profit, underscoring the compelling market appetite for AI‑enabled hardware.
