In brief

The FAA has launched an investigation after the Boeing 737-800 experienced engine vibrations and caught fire upon landing in Denver.

Passengers on an American Airlines flight found themselves in a dangerous situation as they were forced to evacuate onto the wings of a burning jet at Denver International Airport. Eyewitness footage captured the alarming moment smoke billowed from a Boeing airliner as travelers huddled together on the wing, some clutching personal items while flames flickered dangerously close. The incident unfolded when the aircraft, which took off from Colorado Springs en route to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, diverted to Denver just after 5:15 PM local time due to reported "engine vibrations." Once on the ground, while taxiing, the plane caught fire, prompting an immediate evacuation.According to the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), all 172 passengers and six crew members were safely evacuated using inflatable slides, and no injuries have been reported. Although the airline acknowledged an "engine-related issue" involving the Boeing 737-800, the FAA has initiated an investigation to determine the precise cause of the fire that shocked those onboard.
