Mayotte Faces Dangers of New Storm as Floods and Landslides Emerge
Heavy rains have triggered significant flooding and mudslides in Mayotte, raising alarms just weeks after Cyclone Chido's devastation.
Mayotte is grappling with the aftermath of another storm, Dikeledi, which has exacerbated flooding conditions just a month after Cyclone Chido wreaked havoc in the region. Authorities have placed the territory on high alert as violent winds and heavy rains flood areas and cause mudslides, especially affecting the previously untouched village of Mbouini. The prefect of Mayotte indicated that heavy rain will likely continue, maintaining the island's state of red alert. Emergency shelters are hosting over 14,500 displaced individuals as forecasts predict the storm may develop into a tropical cyclone before moving towards Mozambique.
