In brief

On 5 November, France’s national blood bank (EFS) said a cyberattack remotely manipulated its refrigeration systems, temporarily raising temperatures but leaving blood products unharmed. For the first time, Xinhua reported that French banking group Credit Mutuel Arkea detected fraudulent transactions tied to the breach, though it confirmed customers’ funds were safe.

On Nov. 5, a cyberattack targeted the cooling system of France’s national blood bank, raising temperatures but reportedly leaving blood products unharmed, French blood bank authorities (EFS) said.

Federal Emergency Service (EFS) officials said the refrigeration units were remotely manipulated, causing temperatures to rise to high levels; the change was detected quickly, and precautions were taken to preserve all samples and blood products.

In a separate announcement on the same day, the French banking group Credit Mutuel Arkea confirmed that the cyberattack had triggered fraudulent banking transactions, though it assured customers that the incident had stopped and that their funds remain secure. The group temporarily suspended certain transactions as a precaution upon detecting the breach.

Similar attacks recently targeted fridges and freezers in supermarkets across some European countries, officials said.
