Ryanair Cancels Flights Impacting 30,000 Passengers Amid French Air Traffic Control Strike

A two-day strike by French air traffic controllers leads to significant air travel disruptions across Europe.

Italian airline Ryanair has been forced to cancel over 170 flights due to a strike involving French air traffic controllers, affecting the travel plans of more than 30,000 passengers. The work stoppage, lasting two days, was initiated by two French unions demanding better working conditions, resulting in a cancellation rate of 25% at key Parisian airports and 50% at Nice airport. Moreover, flights traversing French airspace to other European destinations were also impacted. Ryanair's CEO, Michael O'Leary, criticized the action, urging European leaders to implement service level protections during strikes. The French civil aviation authority has advised airlines to limit their flight schedules, anticipating further disruptions, especially on Friday. Meanwhile, Airlines for Europe denounced the strike, emphasizing its adverse effects on travelers during the peak summer season.
