The United States is preparing for a winter weather blast this weekend, with snowfall and subfreezing wind chills anticipated across the Midwest and East Coast. The National Weather Service has reported snow squalls creating whiteout conditions in northeastern Ohio, moving eastward into Pennsylvania and eastern New York. Heavy snow impacting travel is expected, with visibilities dropping below a quarter mile.

Forecasters predict that below-average temperatures will linger throughout much of the Central and Eastern U.S. into early next week, with the coldest wind chills likely to affect the Upper Midwest by Sunday night.

Temperatures are also set to dip near freezing in states like Oklahoma, Tennessee, Georgia, and Florida. In Tallahassee, the National Weather Service suggests that residents might see measurable snow, although accumulation may be limited due to warm ground temperatures.

Historically, snowfall in areas like Florida has been rare. If snow does fall, it would mark the second instance in two years following a significant snow event in January 2025, which brought record snowfall to the region.

Additional snowfall is anticipated by Sunday night in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island, with some locations projected to receive around four inches of snow. Travel conditions are expected to worsen through Sunday night as temperatures plunge, prompting the National Weather Service to warn residents to prepare for potential slippery roadways.
