Vietnamese authorities have arrested beauty queen Nguyen Thuc Thuy Tien following allegations of fraud involving counterfeit fibre supplements she vigorously promoted on social media.
Nguyen Thuc Thuy Tien, the 2021 Miss Grand International titleholder, was arrested alongside fellow influencers for her promotions of Kera Supergreens Gummies, which were advertised as having a fibre content equivalent to a full plate of vegetables. However, lab tests disclosed that each gummy contained only 16mg of fibre, starkly contrasting the claimed 200mg. The gummies were developed in collaboration with influencers Pham Quang Linh and Hang Du Muc, and investigations revealed they used substandard ingredients and failed to adequately disclose the low fibre content as well as high levels of sorbitol, a laxative ingredient. After public outcry and an initial fine in March for the misleading promotions, both Pham and Hang Du Muc were arrested, along with company officials responsible for the gummies' production. Nguyen’s arrest followed after she was found complicit in deceiving consumers, as over 100,000 boxes of gummies had been sold prior to the scandal's exposure.Since her coronation, Nguyen had become a prominent figure in Vietnamese media, earning accolades from the prime minister and making appearances on numerous reality shows.
