Vice‑President JD Vance has announced the birth of his fourth child, a baby boy named Alec Neel Vance, on Sunday morning.
The 2026 statement on social media confirmed that both Usha Vance and the newborn are happy and healthy, and that their other kids are overjoyed to welcome a new brother.
"Usha and the baby are happy and healthy, and our kids are overjoyed to meet their little brother," Vance thanked military doctors and staff at Walter Reed Medical Center for their care. This is the first instance, in more than 150 years, of a child being born to a sitting vice‑president while in office.
President Donald Trump congratulated the family with a tweet, praising the "perfect baby boy for the wonderful Vance family."
Vance’s household now includes three other children: 9‑year‑old Ewan, 6‑year‑old Vivek, and four‑year‑old Mirabel. Usha Vance, originally from San Diego, California, grew up with a mechanical engineer father and a molecular biologist mother who had migrated from Andhra Pradesh, India. The couple met as Yale Law School students in 2010 during a discussion about social decline.
The vice‑president has previously called for higher birth rates in the United States, writing in his book that Usha was initially reluctant to have another child until after the death of conservative influencer Charlie Kirk. He reflected, "Not long after we buried my friend, she became pregnant with our fourth child, a boy. One life was stolen from us, but another was given."
