In brief
Ukraine said a night‑time strike reached deep into Russian territory, damaging the Saratov refinery and the Engels airfield used for strategic aviation. Russian authorities confirm eight fatalities and the interception of 635 drones, including attacks on Wildberries and Rozetka warehouses. Moscow also reports assaults on Ukrainian ports and a Black Sea vessel, amid intensified operations across major cities and supplies. The conflict continues to stall along the front line while diplomatic efforts seek resolution.
Ukraine claims its forces carried out a night‑time strike deep inside Russia’s territory, striking the Saratov region’s major oil refinery and the Engels airfield used by Russia’s strategic aviation units.
The attacks also hit an oil depot in the Kaluga region and a drone launch site in Bryansk. Ukrainian officials say the strikes caused significant damage, including fires at the Engels airfield, which hosts Tu‑95MC and Tu‑160 bombers used for missile missions against Ukraine.
Russian authorities report that the strike killed eight people and that 635 drones were shot down or intercepted, and that a warehouse of Russia’s largest online retailer Wildberries suffered a fire.
Amid the ongoing conflict, Moscow says it knocked out two Ukrainian ports and two vessels in the Black Sea. Later that day a Ukrainian missile strike on a postal terminal near Kharkiv killed one person.
Increasingly, both sides target major cities, energy facilities and warehouses, with the front line staying largely static. U.S.-led mediation efforts have yet to produce a breakthrough.
President Volodymyr Zelensky described the latest striking operation as “our long‑range sanctions” that target the infrastructure financing Moscow’s war.
Saratov Governor Roman Busargin acknowledged damage to civilian infrastructure at the airfield, stating the drone attack took two lives and caused further civilian sector impairment.
Other reported casualties include three deaths in Udmurtia and another three in Belgorod from Ukrainian drone attacks on civilian vehicles.
The wave of strikes also includes repeated attacks on Wildberries logistics hubs, which Ukraine claims supply the Russian military with drone components and navigation equipment.
Meanwhile, Rozetka’s largest warehouse was hit overnight by Russian drones, though no injuries were reported. The attack has shaken the Ukrainian market, especially for small and mid‑size businesses reliant on the retailer.
