An avalanche occurred on Tuesday afternoon at the Les Grands Montets resort near Mont Blanc, resulting in the death of a 55-year-old dual Brazilian-Portuguese national. The avalanche struck at approximately 16:35 local time, spanning 1 kilometer (0.6 miles) in length and 400 meters wide. Initially reported as a British victim, local authorities clarified that this was incorrect after identification. The skier was in an off-piste area when the avalanche hit, a location that was being monitored by ski patrols preparing to close it due to deteriorating conditions. Although rescue teams responded swiftly to the scene, the skier was pronounced dead upon arrival. The French Gendarmerie Platoon conveyed that the man's family had been informed of the tragedy and no additional casualties have been reported. The Haute-Savoie prefecture urged all skiers and hikers to prioritize safety and adhere to guidelines during this high-risk avalanche season.
