Two people were killed in a domestic‑violence incident at the private Docemus secondary school in Gosen‑Neu Zittau, a town southeast of Berlin, according to Brandenburg state police.
A 19‑year‑old German man was arrested as the prime suspect. Police said the event was not a mass shooting, though the weapon used has not been specified.
The victim was an 18‑year‑old female secondary school student. A 30‑year‑old man who tried to intervene also died in the incident.
They are believed to have been the ex‑boyfriend of the 18‑year‑old victim, according to reports.
Brandenburg’s regional parliament speaker Ulrike Liedtke called the scene a “cowardly femicide,” expressing sorrow and anger at the violence against a woman and the loss of the man who attempted to help.
State premier Dietmar Woidke described the act as “unimaginable violence.”
School director Michael Kunz announced that classes would be cancelled on Friday, but the school will stay open for students who wish to attend and receive support.
In a related case last month, two girls were seriously wounded and a 16‑year‑old suspect was arrested after an attack at a secondary school in southern Germany.
