Nearly a year into his second term, President Trump faces significant dissatisfaction among Republicans regarding his economic performance, as highlighted by a recent AP-NORC survey.
The poll shows a stark decline in perceptions of Trump's effectiveness in managing the cost of living, with only 16% of Republicans asserting that he has made a substantial difference, a sharp drop from 49% in April 2024 during Trump’s first term.
Despite concerns over economic issues, about 80% of Republicans continue to support Trump’s overall leadership, particularly in immigration policy, which remains a strong point for his administration.
“The cost of living hasn’t improved for my family,” remarked John Candela, a Republican voter, emphasizing his frustration despite a willingness to be patient for future changes.
Overall, the poll reveals a troubling disconnect between Republicans' expectations and the current economic reality. While a majority still endorse Trump, there is growing concern about essential issues like job creation and healthcare costs, indicating that while Trump's base remains loyal, cracks are emerging as many citizens express worry over their financial stability.
The poll, conducted with a sample of 1,203 adults, reflects a nuanced view of Trump's presidency, showcasing both steadfast support from his base and increasing anxiety over economic management.
