SHELBYVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Ed Gallrein, a retired Navy SEAL, has announced his candidacy for the 4th District of Kentucky with the endorsement of Donald Trump. Gallrein vows to support Trump's policies and characterizes incumbent Congressman Thomas Massie as an obstructionist. Trump's political backing gives Gallrein a strong start, particularly as a super PAC supporting him has already initiated ads targeting Massie.

Gallrein stated in a release, 'This district is Trump country. The president doesn’t need obstacles in Congress — he needs backup.' The upcoming GOP primary election, scheduled for May, poses a significant test of Trump's dominant presence in Republican politics. Massie, who has successfully fended off challengers, is known for his libertarian-leaning stance and opposition to some of Trump's policies. He remarked, 'Fourth District voters appreciate having an independent conservative voice who works for them.'

The race is heating up as the candidates prepare for what promises to be a contentious primary in a district that has been solidly Republican for many years. Gallrein's military background and Trump's endorsement may prove pivotal in this political showdown.
