A Kenyan police officer stationed at one of the gates of the president's official residence in Nairobi has died after being shot with an arrow, officials have reported.
On Monday morning, a 56-year-old man armed with a bow approached the officers at the State House gate and was ordered to surrender. Instead, he advanced and shot PC Ramadhan Matanka in the ribs.
The officer was immediately taken to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries during treatment, according to a police statement.
The attack has raised concerns regarding potential security lapses at State House, widely known to be one of Kenya's most fortified sites.
PC Matanka's body is currently in a mortuary, and a post-mortem is scheduled. An investigation is underway to determine the motive for the attack.
Reports indicate that Matanka had been responsible for screening vehicles entering the State House.
The alleged attacker, who reportedly disguised himself as a homeless individual carrying a sack with concealed weapons, was detained following the assault. Video footage revealed a man in handcuffs with visible injuries, being transported in a police vehicle for medical care.
The suspect is expected to appear in court soon, as local media continues to cover the unfolding situation.
The National Police Service has condemned the attack, praising the officers' prompt response that prevented further harm. Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga extended condolences to the family of the deceased officer, emphasizing that he paid the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
