LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Six chilling photos unveiled by federal investigators reveal the disastrous moments involving UPS Flight 2976, which erupted into a fireball while taking off from a Kentucky airport. The sequence captures the airplane as its engine detachments lead to a catastrophic explosion, resulting in the tragic loss of 14 lives, including three crew members. The images, obtained from airport surveillance, were part of a preliminary report by the National Transportation Safety Board regarding the Nov. 4 incident.
The initial photographs depict the moment an engine comes loose, followed by flames shooting from the aircraft as it departs the runway. The final frames show the cargo plane engulfed in flames and smoke as it attempts to take off.
Authorities are continuing their investigation, with early findings suggesting cracks in the engine mount on the left wing. Additional images included in the report show various components of the aircraft as investigators search for the root cause of this tragic incident.
