Tiger Woods says he is stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health following an arrest after a car crash.

The 50-year-old was arrested and charged with driving under the influence after clipping a truck and rolling his car in Florida on Friday. He also faced charges for property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test.

Woods submitted a written plea of not guilty through his attorneys shortly after the incident. A police report indicated he was found with two hydrocodone pills - an opioid - and exhibited signs of lethargy, profuse sweating, and dilated pupils.

Woods shared on X: I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today. I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health. This is necessary for my well-being and lasting recovery.

Prior to the crash, he had considered returning for next month’s Masters but has not competed in a major event since missing the cut at The Open in July 2024. In his statement, he reaffirmed his commitment to returning in a healthier and more focused way.

The PGA Tour voiced support for Woods, emphasizing his legendary status and the importance of his health. CEO Brian Rolapp extended personal support, acknowledging Woods' influence within the sport.

Woods has faced a tumultuous series of incidents over recent years, including a high-profile 2009 accident linked to his personal life, a 2017 guilty plea for reckless driving, and a significant accident in 2021 that resulted in major injuries. Despite these challenges, Woods recently participated in the TGL indoor golf league after a lengthy hiatus from competitive play.
