CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Dalton Eatherly, a 28-year-old who derives notoriety as 'Chud the Builder' for his livestreamed provocations involving racial slurs towards Black individuals, was arrested for attempted murder after a shooting outside a courthouse on Wednesday. According to Montgomery County District Attorney Robert J. Nash, Eatherly and another man were engaged in a confrontation that escalated into gunfire. While details about the events leading to the shooting remain unclear, witnesses reported seeing one of the individuals involved being loaded into an ambulance, describing him as Black.

Eatherly is currently in custody at the Montgomery County Jail, facing multiple charges including employing a firearm during a dangerous felony, aggravated assault, and reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon. His bond will be determined at an upcoming arraignment hearing. Eatherly's attorney, Jacob Fendley, could not be reached for comment.

Witness Claire Martin, who works nearby, stated that Eatherly is known in Clarksville for his confrontational behavior, frequently filming interactions in which he hurls racial slurs at passersby. She remarked that he isn't a productive member of the community.

In a subsequent video posted online, Eatherly claimed that he shot the man in self-defense, questioning whether he had actually grazed himself in the process. Prior to the incident, he was due to appear in court regarding a debt case. Eatherly's record includes past complaints suggesting that his aggressive approach often results in chaos, leading to altercations and charges of disorderly conduct. This recent escalation indicates a troubling pattern of his actions in public spaces.
