South African TV presenter and rapper Molemo Maarohanye, known as Jub Jub, was arrested on Sunday after police said he abducted a taxi driver and discharged a firearm at the man.
According to authorities, the incident took place in Edenvale – a town about 25 km from Johannesburg. Maarohanye had confronted the driver, accusing him of dating his girlfriend. Police reports state that he forced the man into his vehicle and fired his gun toward him.
The driver escaped injury but immediately drove to a nearby police station. The confrontation reportedly occurred at 07:30 local time (05:30 GMT) after the taxi had dropped off a passenger.
This is not Maarohanye’s first run‑in with the law. In 2012 he was convicted of murder and attempted murder after killing four school children and wounding two others during a drag‑race. Two years later a high court overturned those verdicts, convicting him of manslaughter instead.
In 2023 he faced charges of rape, attempted murder and assault linked to an ex‑girlfriend, but the National Prosecuting Authority withdrew those charges in 2024 because of weak prospects for prosecution.
He currently hosts the reality‑TV series Uyayola 9/9, which exposes cheating partners. A court filing says he will appear before Germiston Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday for an initial hearing.
