On Wednesday, the Louvre Museum’s Galerie d'Apollon reopened to visitors, a full nine months after masked thieves stole a valuable collection of jewellery from the space.
Once proudly displayed as France’s Crown Jewels, the gallery now stands empty – the pieces have been moved to higher‑security chambers within the museum.
Police say the culprits used a truck fitted with mechanical ladders to scale a balcony and break into the gallery on 19 October. Four suspects have been arrested but the key items remain missing.
Director Christophe Leribault explained that the Louvre will continue to host precious gemstones, however they will no longer be placed in the former Galerie d'Apollon.
