PROVO, Utah — Tyler Robinson, 22, has been charged with capital murder for the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk during an event attended by around 3,000 people on September 10. Robinson allegedly fired a single bullet from a rooftop, and in subsequent text messages to his partner, he acknowledged being the shooter. Those messages revealed he had planned the killing, expressing his intention to take out Kirk due to what he described as 'hatred' in Kirk's rhetoric. While the official motive remains under investigation, it has been suggested that Robinson could have been driven by Kirk's controversial views.

After the incident, Robinson's partner received a note from him indicating his intentions, but did not report it to the authorities. His parents later recognized him from a photo released by law enforcement, leading to his peaceful surrender. Following the shooting, Robinson is accused of additional charges, including obstructing justice by advising his partner to delete incriminating messages.

Charged with a total of multiple offenses, Robinson faces up to life imprisonment. Authorities are also looking at potential conspirators who may have had knowledge of his plans prior to the attack.
