PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Philadelphia police found human remains Saturday in their ongoing search for Kada Scott, a 23-year-old woman who went missing from her nursing home job roughly two weeks ago. In a news conference, police announced they recovered human remains believed to belong to Scott, though they did not confirm this identification, pending verification by the medical examiner's office. According to John Stanford, the Philadelphia Police Department's deputy commissioner, the remains were found in a shallow grave in a wooded area. An anonymous tip led investigators to search this area a second time. The remains appeared to have been there for several days.
Stanford stated, We are not going to confirm, at this point, that it is Kada Scott because that has to be done by the medical examiner's office. There's still a lot of work to be done. After receiving updates about the case, Scott's family is remaining hopeful as the investigation continues.
Authorities have arrested 21-year-old Keon King, who faces charges of kidnapping, stalking, and related offenses in connection with Scott's disappearance. Alarmingly, King had previously been released after being charged in a similar case earlier this year. His recent bail has been set at $2.5 million, and he remains in custody pending a preliminary hearing scheduled for next month. This situation has raised critical questions regarding the effectiveness of the justice system in handling repeat offenders. Police spokesman Tanya Little indicated that no additional updates were available as the investigation progresses.
