French ambassador faces disciplinary action over alleged sexual misconduct in CAR
France has opened disciplinary proceedings against its top diplomat in the Central African Republic following allegations that he brought dozens of women to his official residence and engaged in sexual activity with some of them between January and March 2024.
The French Foreign Ministry has launched an administrative investigation into a potential security breach after the claims that around 30 women were invited to the ambassador’s Bangui residence, some of whom allegedly stayed overnight.
A French diplomat confirmed to the BBC that the ministry is still conducting the disciplinary procedure, though the exact scope and duration are not yet disclosed.
Ambassador Bruno Foucher, 65, has represented France in Bangui since 2023. The accusations have emerged just as France and the CAR are reportedly strengthening diplomatic ties, with Foreign Minister Jean‑Noël Barrot praising the "complete restoration of relations" between the two countries.
