Eurostar passengers are bracing for more possible disruption, as a power outage in the Channel Tunnel caused significant travel chaos for thousands on Tuesday.
As New Year's Eve celebrations approached, many travelers reported being stuck aboard trains for over six hours due to a combination of power failures and technical issues. One individual who boarded the 19:01 service to Paris shared that he remained on the train until 03:00 GMT.
He relayed that staff indicated a '50% chance we go to Paris and a 50% chance we return to London.'
Eurostar managed to run some services on Wednesday but alerted passengers that delays and cancellations could still occur. The service scheduled from London to Paris at 06:00 GMT was cancelled.
Compounding the travel woes, the outage related to the overhead power supply, coupled with a broken LeShuttle train, blocked routes for hours, leaving many desperate to reach their New Year's destinations.
Although some services resumed on Tuesday evening, only one of the two rail lines was operational, causing lingering delays. Eurostar and Getlink have been working through the night to resolve the power issues.
In the wake of the events, Eurostar has reassured travelers that services are expected to run today, but they should remain vigilant for further updates on their journeys.
Passenger Dennis van der Steen shared his experience of being stuck on a Eurostar train for six hours before it slowly began moving again at around 03:00 GMT. He described the atmosphere onboard as concerning, with a lack of power and worried passengers.
Images circulating on social media depicted crowded scenes at London St Pancras as travelers faced cancellations and delays, with Eurostar urging those affected to consider rearranging their plans free of charge.
