Colombian pop sensation Shakira has officially canceled her upcoming concert in Washington DC, which was scheduled for Saturday in conjunction with WorldPride. This decision comes on the heels of a similar cancellation of her performance in Boston that also faced production issues. Nationals Park, the venue for the DC concert, stated that complications from the Boston show prevented the transport of Shakira's full tour production in time, leading to the unfortunate cancellation.
The 48-year-old singer expressed her deep disappointment over the situation. In a heartfelt statement, she revealed, "I have been counting the days, excited to be reunited with my fans in both Washington and Boston." She assures her audience that she will make every effort to return as soon as possible.
Fans had been eagerly anticipating the show, and many expressed their frustration on social media, having traveled specifically for the concert. One fan tweeted, "I flew in from LA for this. I'm experiencing a second cancellation of this tour," indicating their dismay over yet another missed opportunity. However, other fans rallied to support Shakira, agreeing that the circumstances were out of her control.
The earlier show in Boston was also called off due to safety concerns identified during a routine pre-show inspection by entertainment company Live Nation. They confirmed that certain structural elements of the stage did not meet safety standards, prompting the decision to cancel.
Despite the setbacks, Shakira's tour continues, with plans for a performance in Atlanta on June 2. Ticketholders for the Washington DC show have been promised automatic refunds.
