The ballet community is in mourning following the sudden loss of 39-year-old Vladimir Shklyarov, a principal dancer with the celebrated Mariinsky Theatre. In a heartfelt statement, Mariinsky Theatre officials expressed their condolences and emphasized the significance of Shklyarov's contributions to contemporary ballet. "This is a huge loss not only for the theatre's staff but for all of contemporary ballet," they said. Shklyarov, who had a successful career spanning over 20 years, was married to fellow dancer Maria Shklyarov and is survived by two children.Born in Leningrad, Shklyarov trained at the prestigious Vaganova Academy, graduating in 2003. He swiftly rose to prominence, joining the Mariinsky Theatre the same year and attaining principal dancer status in 2011. His repertoire included lead roles in celebrated productions like Giselle and Swan Lake, and he performed in esteemed venues such as London’s Royal Opera House and New York’s Metropolitan Opera.
