CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — Hunter Nadeau, a 23-year-old man from Nashua, was set to appear in court Monday to face charges related to a shooting incident at Sky Meadow Country Club over the weekend, which resulted in one death and two injuries.
Authorities state that during a wedding reception at the country club, Nadeau reportedly targeted a restaurant employee, leading to chaos as patrons quickly intervened to prevent further harm. Nadeau has been charged with second-degree murder following the incident that claimed the life of 59-year-old Robert DeCesare Jr.
Witness Charlene DeCesare recounted that her husband was shot while attempting to protect her and their daughter, expressing her despair over the loss.
New Hampshire Attorney General John Formella praised the bravery of those who intervened, emphasizing their selfless actions. Michael Homewood, a DJ at the event, stated someone struck Nadeau with a chair, which helped subdue him and potentially saved lives.
As investigations continue, authorities are still trying to confirm Nadeau's motives. Initial assumptions suggested there might have been multiple shooters, but this has been clarified to involve only Nadeau. The motives remain unclear, and charges related to the other victims are anticipated.
Two individuals were injured in the shooting and one is reported to be in critical condition. The community and the DeCesare family are in mourning, with calls for support and understanding as they navigate through this tragic event.
