At least two people have been killed and 11 injured in a new Russian overnight drone attack on Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, local officials have reported. Among the victims was a one-year-old baby, whose body was recovered from the rubble, according to Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv's military administration. A young woman is also believed to be among those killed.

Russian strikes also targeted Kryvyi Rih, President Volodymyr Zelensky's hometown, damaging three infrastructure facilities. As air raid warnings were activated for all Ukraine regions overnight, the city faced direct assaults on residential buildings in areas including Svyatoshynkyi and Darnytskyi districts.

Following the drone attacks, Tkachenko reported extensive fire damage to several multi-storey buildings, encouraging residents to stay in shelters. Initial reports indicated multiple explosions occurring early in the morning, some located in the city center.

The attacks coincide with an increasingly harsh rhetoric from Russian President Vladimir Putin against Western support for Ukraine. Recent developments include Putin’s rejection of Western proposals for a reassurance force in Ukraine and warnings that any foreign troops would be considered 'legitimate targets'.

This latest drone strike underscores the ongoing conflict, as Russia has occupied roughly 20% of Ukrainian territory, including the Crimea peninsula since 2014. Ukrainian officials have called for increased international support amid these continuing aggressions.
