BBC Cuts Ties with 'MasterChef' Host Gregg Wallace Amid Misconduct Allegations
The BBC has severed its partnership with Gregg Wallace following a comprehensive investigation that validated numerous allegations of sexual misconduct against the television personality.
In a striking move, the BBC announced on Monday that it would no longer collaborate with Gregg Wallace, the beloved host of “MasterChef.” This decision follows a thorough inquiry that verified multiple allegations of sexual misconduct, with 45 out of 83 claims upheld against Wallace. The accusations range from instances of indecency and unwarranted physical interaction to inappropriate remarks of a sexual nature. The inquiry, conducted by Lewis Silkin law firm, involved extensive interviews with 78 witnesses and examined events spanning two decades from 2005 to 2024.
Following the BBC's announcement, Wallace took to Instagram to express his regrets concerning some of his humor and language but categorically denied many of the claims. He argued that his persona as the “cheeky greengrocer” was misunderstood in today’s more sanitized social climate. The production company, Banijay, stated that the sheer number of verified allegations rendered his participation in “MasterChef” impossible going forward.
