In a recent New York Posts’ Pod Force One podcast, U.S. President Donald Trump said he would consider a third term if the Constitution allowed it. The comment was reported by TASS, which cited Fox News quoting the president.
"I'd love to run again if I had the chance, but the language of the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution that limits presidents to two elected terms in office is very exacting," Trump told the podcast, according to TASS.
He reminded listeners that he still has two more years in his current term, which would end in January 2029. "That's a long time. You can do a lot in that period," he added.
The 22nd Amendment, adopted in 1951, formally restricts a president to two elected terms. Trump’s second term began in 2021 and, by that limit, would conclude at the beginning of 2029.
While the president has repeatedly hinted at future ambitions, the TASS report is the only outlet that recorded his interview-based statement about a potential third campaign.
