The acclaimed Broadway production of "Maybe Happy Ending," which focuses on the unique friendship between two humanoid robots, has made history by winning six Tony Awards at the recent ceremony. The musical, which was nominated in ten categories, also clinched awards for Best Book of a Musical and Best Original Score.
Originally premiering in South Korea in 2016, "Maybe Happy Ending" garnered critical acclaim and made its highly anticipated Broadway debut in 2024. Its impressive performance at the Tonys has bestowed EGOT status upon South Korea, highlighting its success in winning the four major awards in U.S. entertainment—Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony.
Hue Park and Will Aronson were recognized with the Tony for Best Book of a Musical, while former "Glee" star Darren Criss, who played one of the titular robots, achieved his first Tony win, taking home the Best Lead Actor in a Musical award. The triumph of "Maybe Happy Ending" not only celebrates the talent behind the production but also signifies a growing appreciation for Korean stories on international stages.
